Web radio to go!

fm4 today’s webtip:

SomaFM has some pretty nifty streams. My personal favorite is probably their collection of cover songs, but I’m funny that way.

But we all knew about Soma already, right?

What you might not know, is that you can have SomaFM with you where ever you go. They just recently announced their iPhone specific site for their streams, and it’s pretty darn cool. The best thing is that you can have this mobile music even if you don’t have the recent release of the SatusPhone. Soma has been delivering music to Windows Mobile devices, Motorolas, Samsungs, Nokias, and maybe some others I haven’t listed.

I haven’t tested any of the others, but if you have a mobile phone that can play back music and a data plan, you may want to check it out. somafm.com

Cool! There are so many new possibilities with new devices and bigger bandwidth.

By the way I like the “Groove Salad” and the “indie pop rocks” stream.

Zattoo

Wow! I was waiting for this for ages!

Zattoo is real TV on your PC – and it’s absolutely free. It’s the football game as you chat, the news as you email, and your favorite soap as you pay your bills. Zattoo is also TV when you don’t have a TV – it’s the channels you want, when you want, where you want.”

It even works on OSX! Download Zattoo!

Skype: What Really Happened

After all the trouble from last week I found this post about skype. On heartbeat.skype.com you can read what really happened.

[…] On Thursday, 16th August 2007, the Skype peer-to-peer network became unstable and suffered a critical disruption. The disruption was triggered by a massive restart of our users’ computers across the globe within a very short timeframe as they re-booted after receiving a routine set of patches through Windows Update.

The high number of restarts affected Skype’s network resources. This caused a flood of log-in requests, which, combined with the lack of peer-to-peer network resources, prompted a chain reaction that had a critical impact. […]

Very interesting.

Skype offline?!

Today it is impossible to connect to skype. First I thought I’ve trouble with my Mac… after having the same problem on another machine I started to search for the problem. I found a notice on heise.de “Störung im Skype-Netzwerk”. It seems that many users have trouble with it… hmmm.

How could it be that a big company like skype is doing something that makes the system not available for a whole day or more? I mean skype is not like a gaming or fun place… for me it’s basically work or business. Will our complete work in future be predicated to (online) software?

[update: 17. August 2007] – skype is still in trouble… Here you can see what’s currently going on.
